Government Urges Indonesian Migrant Workers to Avoid Cambodia Due to Exploitation Risks

The government has urged Indonesian migrant workers not to choose Cambodia as a work destination due to the high number of labour exploitation cases that threaten their safety. Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar, also known as Cak Imin, conveyed this warning after personally inspecting the conditions in the country. “Don’t be easily tempted to work in Cambodia. We are issuing a warning, there is a lot of exploitation in Cambodia. I flew there and checked one by one. The country is poorer than ours, so just don’t go there,” Muhaimin said during a briefing and send-off event for 337 prospective Indonesian migrant workers in Pancaniti, Cianjur, on Tuesday. He urged migrant workers to heed the warning to prevent further cases of criminal human trafficking. Muhaimin also called on all levels of government to transform the migrant workforce into a more qualified and skilled labour pool. “They are young people who are the pride of the red and white. They are not just going to work, but to increase their capacity, gain experience, and improve their skills. After three years, they will be the ones who can build Cianjur Regency and Indonesia in the future,” he asserted.
