JAKARTA – A member of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives, TB Hasanuddin, has called on the Indonesian government to promptly determine a clear, firm, and unambiguous stance regarding Israel’s attack on Iran.

This firm position must be conveyed in accordance with the constitutional mandate that rejects all forms of colonialism and supports world peace.

“The President or the Foreign Minister must promptly convey Indonesia’s official position. Especially since our government has been deeply involved in Middle Eastern issues through the Board of Peace (BoP) initiative. It is time for our active diplomatic activism over the past few months to demonstrate results – whether we are truly seen as having a strategic position globally, or whether we are still far from achieving our goals,” Hasanuddin stated in his remarks on Saturday, 28 February 2026.

According to Hasanuddin, this open attack will further heat the situation in the Middle East and has the potential to set back efforts to ease tensions in Gaza by the Board of Peace (BoP).

“Israel’s open attack, followed by a statement from President Donald Trump indicating that the United States is joining in new military operations, presents a view that there are very significant interests in the de facto control of Iran by Israel and its American ally,” Hasanuddin said.

“This situation will certainly have an impact on regional stability, including other countries in other regions, which are certainly monitoring the situation in Iran amid an atmosphere of apprehension that could prove counterproductive,” he continued.

“From this incident, we must conclude that it is impossible for Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu to have sincere intentions of reconciling Palestine. The facts on the ground instead show an escalating conflict that is spreading further,” he stated firmly.

According to Hasanuddin, these conditions are making the public increasingly doubtful about the peace mission claimed through the Board of Peace.

“We are increasingly losing faith that the BoP truly has a sincere mission for peace, if what is happening is instead an expansion of conflict and military attacks on another country,” he said.

Beyond geopolitical impacts, he also highlighted the potential for disruptions to global economic stability, particularly in the energy sector.

According to him, two weeks ago, Iran threatened to close the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway through which approximately 20 per cent of global oil trade passes, although this only lasted for several hours.

“It is quite possible that Iran will again close the Strait of Hormuz or that the region will become an armed conflict zone. If that happens, global oil prices could spike sharply. This would have serious consequences for Indonesia, which still imports oil,” he said.

It was previously reported that Israel attacked Tehran, Iran, on Saturday, 28 February 2026 in the morning, then closed its airspace and declared a state of emergency.
