JAKARTA - A member of Commission X of the House of Representatives, Abdul Fikri Faqih, has urged the government to prepare a solution scheme for teachers who do not hold civil servant (non-ASN) status. This call was made in response to the issuance of Circular Letter (SE) No. 7 of 2026 from the Minister of Basic and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen). “Policies should not only stop or prohibit, but must be accompanied by a solution scheme,” Faqih stated in his remarks on Monday (11/5/2026). The plan then continued through the ASN Law, although issues related to honorary workers remain unresolved. Therefore, he requested that the government first provide certainty for teachers who have long served. In addition, he asked non-ASN teachers to remain calm while awaiting further information from the government regarding SE Mendikdasmen 7/2026. If the SE is truly implemented without a solution, many schools could face a shortage of educators. “If they are stopped, but they are still needed below, then in the end we together violate the regulations we made ourselves,” Faqih said. The Director General of Teachers and Education Personnel (GTK) of the Ministry of Education, Nunuk Suryani, emphasised that there will be no mass termination of employment (PHK) for non-ASN teachers in 2027. Nunuk quoted the statement of the Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform (PANRB), Rini Widyantini, who had previously stated that there would be no PHK for non-ASN teachers. “Although the non-ASN status ends in 2026, the Minister of PANRB has conveyed that there will be no mass PHK because the government is formulating how to meet future teacher needs,” Nunuk said during a press conference at the Ministry of Education office in Central Jakarta on Monday (11/5/2026). Currently, the Ministry of Education is formulating how to conduct selection and schemes for selecting non-ASN teachers so that their status is clear. Nunuk explained that the Circular Letter of the Minister of Basic and Secondary Education No. 7 of 2026 serves as a reference for local governments to continue employing non-ASN teachers. “Actually, according to the local governments themselves, they still very much need these teachers. So what is not allowed is the non-ASN status next year, not that the teachers cannot teach,” Nunuk stressed.
