Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Chair of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, has requested that the government evaluate the assignment of TNI soldiers in conflict zones, following the deaths of three Indonesian peacekeepers in Lebanon due to an Israeli attack.

“The government should conduct an evaluation of the assignment of TNI soldiers in conflict zones,” she said in her closing speech for the Fourth Session Period of the 2025–2026 Sitting Year at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday.

She added that this evaluation must include clarity on the mission, mandate, operational readiness, and maximum protection for personnel.

“In accordance with international best practice standards in United Nations peacekeeping operations, which require readiness in terms of politics, capacity, and the operational environment,” she stated.

“May the best sons of the nation receive the best place by the side of Allah SWT, and may the families left behind be granted strength and resilience. Amen,” she said.

The House of Representatives emphasised the importance for relevant parties to conduct a credible investigation together with the UN regarding the incident to reveal objective facts.

“This effort is based on the main principles of UN peacekeeping missions, namely transparency, accountability, and respect for international law and human rights,” she said.

A day earlier, the UN reported that two other Indonesian UNIFIL members were killed in an attack on a UNIFIL logistics convoy near Bani Hayyan in southern Lebanon on Monday (30/3).

The two soldiers who died were Captain Infantry Zulmi Aditya Iskandar and Sergeant One Muhammad Nur Ichwan.
