Government Urged to Ensure 92 Percent of Ride-Hailing Income Goes to Drivers

The Garda Indonesia Online Motorcycle Taxi Drivers Association has urged the government to ensure that the provision for a minimum 92 percent share of income for online motorcycle taxi (ojol) drivers is genuinely received by drivers in practice. “We hope that Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 27 of 2026 can provide increased income and protection for online motorcycle taxi drivers,” said Garda Indonesia Chairman Raden Igun Wicaksono during a press conference in the Tebet area, South Jakarta, on Friday. He stated that Perpres Number 27 of 2026 concerning the Protection of Online Transport Workers is an important milestone for legal certainty and improving the welfare of ojol drivers. According to him, prior to Perpres 27/2026, the deductions received by drivers from application companies ranged from 20 percent to nearly 50 percent. With the provision for a maximum deduction of eight percent, Igun said, drivers normatively receive a larger share of income. He gave an example that from a trip fare of Rp20,000, an eight percent deduction equals Rp1,600, leaving Rp18,400 as the driver’s entitlement. However, Igun stressed that driver welfare cannot be measured solely by the percentage of income distribution. “We want to ensure that eight percent is truly eight percent, and 92 percent is truly 92 percent in the actual transactions received by drivers,” said Igun. Garda Indonesia stated it will monitor the implementation of the Presidential Regulation. If it finds any applicators not complying with the provisions, the association will report them to the relevant technical ministries and agencies so that warnings or sanctions can be issued. On the other hand, Igun also appreciated the recognition of ojol drivers as part of the micro-business sector within the micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) ecosystem. This status is expected to strengthen the bargaining position of drivers in their relationship with application companies. Furthermore, protection for drivers in the future is also expected to be strengthened through higher-level regulations so that the certainty of drivers’ rights and welfare is increasingly guaranteed. The Garda Indonesia Online Motorcycle Taxi Drivers Association positively and enthusiastically welcomed the statement by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, who mentioned that after the implementation of the new policy regarding online transport income distribution, some drivers experienced a significant increase in earnings, even reaching two to three times their previous income. The statement was delivered directly by President Prabowo during the State Address of the President of the Republic of Indonesia on Friday. The President said that previously, drivers received around 80 percent of the trip income, whereas through the new policy, the driver’s share becomes 92 percent, with a maximum of 8 percent for the applicator.
