Government Urged to Consider These Points in Delivery Service Tariff Rules

The Indonesian Online Motorcycle Taxi Community (KAJOL) has responded to the government’s discussions on planned tariff regulations for goods and food delivery services through applications.

KAJOL Chairman Firmansyah stated that driver income is not solely determined by the size of the tariff for a single order. The number of incoming orders also significantly determines a driver’s daily earnings.

He noted that drivers naturally want to earn a better income. However, tariff increases must not make prices too expensive for users.

“We would certainly be pleased if tariffs went up. But if tariffs are too expensive, customers may reduce their use of the application. If orders decline, driver income could also fall. What matters most for drivers is how much money they can take home after working all day,” he told reporters.

He expressed hope that the regulation would not focus solely on income from a single order. For example, he said, if the tariff for one order rises but the number of orders drops significantly, the final result could be smaller.

“So what must be considered is the driver’s overall income in a day,” he said.

Firmansyah explained that conditions on the ground are not always the same. There are times when orders are busy, but there are also times when orders are very quiet. Therefore, tariff rules must take into account the real conditions experienced by drivers.

“Conditions on the ground are constantly changing. Sometimes busy, sometimes quiet. The government must observe these conditions directly and not listen to only one party,” he said.

KAJOL Indonesia also believes that the presence of app operators is very important for drivers because the application is one of the main means of obtaining orders and meeting daily needs.

He noted that drivers need app operators and app operators also need drivers.

“We need each other. Our goal is the same, namely to provide service to customers. Therefore, there must be no regulation that makes it difficult for either party to survive,” he said.

KAJOL Indonesia hopes that discussions with the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) will produce fair and balanced regulations. The rules are expected to improve driver welfare while still considering the ability of the public as service users.
