Government Urged to Accelerate Construction of Double-Double Track from Jakarta to Cikarang
JAKARTA - Rofik Hananto, a member of Commission V of the House of Representatives, has urged the government to accelerate the construction of the double-double track (DDT) or dual railway lines from Jakarta to Cikarang.
This demand was made in response to an accident involving the Argo Bromo Anggrek long-distance train and the KRL commuter line in East Bekasi.
“With the double track in place, train frequencies and movements can be more orderly, reducing density and minimising the potential for conflicts at level crossings. This project must be prioritised,” Rofik stated in his remarks, quoted on Thursday (30/4/2026).
“On routes with very high traffic like the Jakarta-Cikarang line, the construction of a double-double track (DDT) is an urgent need,” Rofik added.
In addition, he called for sanctions or fines for motorists who breach gates or level crossings.
“There needs to be stricter enforcement of rules for drivers crossing level crossings. Many accidents occur because road users force through gates or ignore warning signals,” Rofik said, quoted from the PKS Faction of the House of Representatives website on Wednesday (29/4/2026).
“Enforcement in the form of fines, increased surveillance, and ongoing education must be strengthened so that traffic discipline is truly formed,” he continued.
Currently, the operational DDT line only covers the Jatinegara-Bekasi segment. On that stretch, long-distance trains (KAJJ) and KRL lines are already separated, which helps reduce the risk of journey disruptions and train accidents.
The DDT project is designed to connect Manggarai Station to Cikarang.
However, construction is still ongoing in the Manggarai-Jatinegara segment, including the development of Manggarai Ultimate, which has now resumed. Meanwhile, the Bekasi-Cikarang segment has not yet begun.
If the Manggarai-Cikarang DDT is operational, staff will no longer need to bother managing track switches, which cause journey delays. Train accidents can also be avoided due to the separation of KRL and KAJJ lines.
