Jakarta - Deputy Minister of State Secretary Bambang Eko Suhariyanto stated the government is preparing to utilise the former Hotel Sultan asset for the greatest possible prosperity and welfare of the people. “This asset must be utilised to the greatest extent for the prosperity and welfare of the people,” said Bambang ahead of the execution at the former Hotel Sultan in the GBK Block 15 area, Jakarta, on Thursday. Bambang explained that the land of the former Hotel Sultan is a state asset acquired by the government around 1959 for the organisation of the IV Asian Games in Jakarta. He said President Prabowo Subianto has directed that government assets which have been controlled by other parties be returned to state and government control. According to Bambang, the former Hotel Sultan asset had been used by PT Indobuildco for approximately 50 years. After returning to the state, the asset will be utilised for the benefit of the wider community. Meanwhile, Chandra M. Hamzah, legal counsel for the Gelora Bung Karno Complex Management Centre, added that the legal dispute between the state and PT Indobuildco had been ongoing for about 20 years. He stated that the resolution of the case demonstrates the government followed applicable legal procedures until a court order for the execution of the eviction was issued. “This proves that the government, the state, complies with existing legal procedures. Previously, Indobuildco’s legal counsel claimed there was no eviction execution order. Now I am calling in that claim because there is now a court order to carry out the eviction execution. We are now calling in the words of Indobuildco’s legal counsel. Therefore, today the Central Jakarta District Court will carry out the eviction execution,” he said. According to Chandra, the court ruling declared that all land, buildings, and everything attached within the former Hotel Sultan area are state property and have been recorded as state assets. Regarding employees working at the former Hotel Sultan, the government will register permanent employees, daily workers, and workers with fixed-term employment contracts. “Concerning the employees, this is a concern of the Deputy Minister himself from the State Secretariat. We will accommodate them, we will record who are permanent employees, who are daily workers, and who are fixed-term workers,” he said. As for plans to utilise the existing buildings and facilities in the former Hotel Sultan area, Chandra said the government has prepared a plan which will be announced at the appropriate time. “We will, we already have a plan. We will convey it in due course,” he stated. The execution of Block 15, the former Hotel Sultan, on Thursday is the implementation of Central Jakarta District Court Decision Number 208/Pdt.G/2025/PN.Jkt.Pst and Central Jakarta District Court Stipulation Number 1/Pdt.Eks/2026/PN.Jkt.Pst concerning the land and buildings of the former Hotel Sultan located within the HPL Number 4/Gelora area, a state asset under the Ministry of State Secretariat cq PPKGBK. The land was acquired and compensated by the government from 1959 to 1962 for the IV Asian Games, and the government reportedly never sold, released, or transferred rights to the land to PT Indobuildco. PT Indobuildco once held an HGB title over the state HPL land, but the HGB was not a freehold title and its term has expired. The on-site execution was led by the court bailiff, with support from PPKGBK, government elements, legal counsel, and security forces. The situation at the location was observed to be tense but remained conducive due to demonstrations against the execution by parties claiming to represent employees and indigenous people. Police and GBK area security personnel continued to stand guard to ensure the situation remained under control.
