The government will soon announce a decision regarding the implementation of work from home (WFH). This policy is under review in response to the impact of the conflict in the Middle East.

Spokesperson for the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Haryo Limanseto, stated that discussions are ongoing intensively across ministries and agencies.

“All follow-up actions on the President’s directives related to anticipating the impact of Middle East turmoil are being discussed intensively among ministries and agencies, including matters related to WFH,” Haryo said when contacted on Wednesday (25/3).

However, he emphasised that no final decision has been made available to the public as the discussion process is still underway.

“For now, nothing can be conveyed because it is still under discussion,” he said.

Regarding the possibility of full WFH implementation, Haryo assured that the government will soon convey the official decision once the discussions are complete.

“It will be announced soon,” he added.

As previously reported, the escalation of conflict between Iran and Israel, involving the United States, has increased global uncertainty, particularly in the energy sector.

This tension has driven a surge in world oil prices and heightened risks of global energy supply chain disruptions, including strategic distribution routes in the Middle East region. The impact is already being felt in the weakening exchange rates of several developing countries’ currencies, including the rupiah, as well as increased pressure on production and logistics costs. WFH is considered capable of reducing fuel consumption and employee mobility. (H-4)

MEMBER of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Edi Oloan Pasaribu, reminded that implementing work from home (WFH) to save fuel for one day a week is only effective as a short-term solution.

The Minister of Home Affairs, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, revealed that the option of work from home (WFH) one day per week is gaining strength in the latest inter-ministerial meeting.

The Bandung City Government is ready to follow the central government’s policy regarding the discourse on implementing work from home (WFH) for civil servants (ASN) one day per week.

East Java is finalising the scheme for implementing work from home (WFH) for civil servants (ASN) in East Java. However, it will not choose Friday.

A researcher from Indef stated that the work from home (WFH) policy has the potential to help government and company budget efficiency but risks hindering the economy.
