Government to Renovate 30,000 Uninhabitable Houses in Central Java
The Minister for Housing and Settlement Areas, Maruarar Sirait, announced this during the launch of the 2026 BSPS programme in Brebes Regency today.
“Last year in Central Java there were 7,532 units, this year at least 30,000 units. The increase is around 23,000 units,” said Maruarar Sirait in a written statement on Saturday (9/5/2026).
She stated that the increase in the BSPS target in Central Java is part of accelerating the three million houses programme directed by President Prabowo Subianto. This year, the government is also expanding the BSPS reach nationally. Previously, hundreds of regencies/cities had not yet received the programme, but this year all regencies/cities in Indonesia will receive allocations.
“Last year there were 222 regencies/cities that did not receive it. This year all regencies/cities in Indonesia, more than 500 regions, will receive this programme,” she said.
In addition to BSPS, Maruarar also mentioned the Housing KUR programme, which is aimed at empowering communities, including small business actors. Through this programme, people can access low-interest financing to repair houses or support businesses.
Maruarar also requested that the implementation of the house renovation programme stimulate the local economy. Building materials such as bricks and tiles are expected to be purchased from local business actors.
“Items purchased, such as bricks and tiles, should be sourced from Central Java so that the people’s economy moves,” she stated.
Meanwhile, the Governor of Central Java, Ahmad Luthfi, expressed thanks for the central government’s support in accelerating the handling of uninhabitable houses in Central Java.
“We express our thanks; there is Mr Ara who has provided assistance related to house renovations. This will greatly help Central Java in eradicating poverty,” said Luthfi.
According to him, handling uninhabitable houses needs to be continuously strengthened because there are still many residents, especially in deciles 1 to 4, who need decent housing. With collaboration between central and regional governments, handling uninhabitable houses can be faster.
In addition to the BSPS programme, handling uninhabitable houses in Central Java is also supported by the provincial APBD with a target of 5,000 units in 2026. For Brebes Regency, the target from the provincial APBD source is 249 units.
Other support comes from company CSR and Baznas. In 2026, the target for handling uninhabitable houses from these sources in Central Java is 1,550 units, consisting of Baznas 750 units, Djarum 500 units, and Bank Jateng 300 units.
“Thus, the total target for handling uninhabitable houses in Central Java in 2026 from three main sources reaches 36,550 units. The details are 30,000 units from the APBN through BSPS, 5,000 units from the provincial APBD, and 1,550 units from CSR and Baznas,” he stated.
Meanwhile, for Brebes Regency, the total target for handling uninhabitable houses in 2026 reaches 514 units, consisting of 215 units from APBN/BSPS, 249 units from provincial APBD, and 50 units from CSR/Baznas.
Meanwhile, member of Commission V of the DPR RI, Danang Wicaksana, expressed his support for the BSPS programme as part of the government’s efforts to meet the decent housing needs of the community.
Danang said his presence at the BSPS launch was also to see the conditions on the ground directly. According to him, the need for house renovations is still large, so the programme needs to be continuously strengthened.
“In the future, for 2027 and beyond, this house renovation programme can be increased again so that everyone can be reached. This programme can also encourage UMKM empowerment, especially building material shops around the beneficiaries,” he said.
One of the BSPS programme beneficiaries, Nunung, expressed her joy that her damaged house could soon be repaired thanks to the assistance.
“Alhamdulillah, I’m happy; my house is already leaking. I had planned to renovate but didn’t have enough money. So thank you for this assistance,” said Nunung.
The criteria for BSPS recipients include low-income residents, owning uninhabitable houses, who have not previously received similar assistance, and who have clear land or house legality.
