Government to Provide Transport Fare Discounts for 2026 School Holidays and Christmas

The government is re-implementing a transport fare discount policy for the 2026 school holiday period and the 2026/2027 Christmas and New Year holidays. Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi stated that the policy is in accordance with President Prabowo Subianto’s directive to maintain public purchasing power and control prices. “This is a form of the government’s commitment to providing safe, secure, and comfortable transport services that are accessible to the public during periods of increased mobility,” Dudy said in a written statement in Jakarta on Sunday (21/6/2026). Dudy expressed hope that the policy would ease the public’s travel costs and encourage the movement of people and economic activity during the holiday period. He conveyed that this measure represents the government’s presence in facilitating more affordable travel for the public. “We hope this incentive can be optimally utilised by the public, while also having a positive impact on the transport, tourism, and national economic sectors,” Dudy stated. He noted that the provision of discounts is stipulated in a Joint Decree of the Minister of Transportation, the Minister of Finance, and the Head of the State-Owned Enterprises Supervisory Agency concerning the Assignment to State-Owned Enterprises in the Transport Sector to Provide Transport Fare Discounts as an Economic Stimulus for the 2026 School Holiday Period, Christmas 2026, and New Year 2027.
