Government to open ticket 'war' for 8,100 attendees at Independence Day Ceremony

The Deputy Minister of State Secretariat, Juri Ardiantoro, stated that the government will once again open a ‘ticket war’—a competitive registration process—for 8,100 individuals wishing to attend the Proclamation of Independence ceremony in person at Istana Merdeka on 17 August 2026. Juri noted that the public will have the opportunity to attend the ceremony at the Presidential Palace through a registration mechanism that the government will announce shortly.

In addition to the general public, the government will also invite the winners of the 81st Independence Day logo competition, which was announced previously. The government aims for at least 8,100 participants to attend both the Proclamation Ceremony and the Flag Lowering Ceremony on 17 August. According to Juri, this year’s Independence Month celebrations are designed as a collaborative effort involving various ministries, agencies, and active public participation.

Furthermore, Juri confirmed that President Prabowo Subianto will serve as the inspector of the ceremony for the Proclamation of Independence. The government has established the theme for the 81st Anniversary of Indonesian Independence in 2026 as ‘Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous Indonesia’. This theme reflects the national development direction, emphasising national self-reliance, equitable justice, and public welfare.

The peak of the 81st Independence Day celebrations will take place on Monday, 17 August 2026, comprising the Proclamation Ceremony and the Lowering of the Red and White Flag. This state ceremony serves as the primary event, typically held at the Presidential Palace, involving state officials, ceremonial troops, and officially invited guests. Alongside the state ceremonies, various activities such as traditional competitions, cultural events, and the display of the national flag will be organised across Indonesia to celebrate the occasion.
