Government to Open 2027 Civil Servant Selection, Prioritising Teachers

The government and the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) have officially finalised a number of policies regarding the employment status of teachers holding government work agreements (PPPK). One of the key decisions is the opening of opportunities for PPPK teachers to take part in the civil servant candidate (CPNS) selection, which is projected to begin in early 2027.

The decision resulted from a coordination meeting between the government and the DPR discussing the arrangement of PPPK teacher status, including part-time PPPK teachers, PPPK teachers wishing to become civil servants (PNS), and teachers under the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) and the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag).

Deputy Speaker of the DPR RI Sufmi Dasco Ahmad said discussions on the status of PPPK teachers have now entered the finalisation stage. “We have reached the finalisation of the meeting results regarding the status of part-time PPPK teachers, PPPK teachers who want to become PNS within Kemendikdasmen, including state madrasah teachers and kindergarten teachers,” Dasco said, as quoted from the DPR RI Instagram account on Thursday (20/8/2026).

On the same occasion, Minister for Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform (PAN-RB) Rini Widyantini confirmed that the government will provide opportunities for PPPK teachers to take part in the PNS selection, which is expected to open in early 2027. In addition, part-time PPPK teachers will also have the opportunity to become full-time PPPK in the same year.

“Part-time PPPK teachers will be given the opportunity to become full-time PPPK, which will be carried out in 2027. Then, PPPK teachers will also be given the opportunity to take part in the PNS selection, with registration estimated to open in early 2027,” Rini said.

Rini revealed that the current number of PPPK teachers nationally reaches 955,245 people. Of that number, 231,246 are part-time PPPK teachers.

The number of CPNS positions to be opened will be adjusted to the projected national teacher needs. The government estimates the need for teachers at 526,689 positions to support various priority programmes in the education sector.

These positions will be allocated to meet the need for teaching staff in a number of new government programmes, including Sekolah Rakyat (People’s Schools), Sekolah Terintegrasi (Integrated Schools), and Sekolah Garuda (Garuda Schools).

“We will open them for the projected national teacher needs for 2026, including the needs for Sekolah Rakyat and Sekolah Terintegrasi, as well as Sekolah Garuda,” Rini said.

With this policy, hundreds of thousands of PPPK teachers have the opportunity to obtain more permanent employment status through the CPNS selection, while also becoming part of the government’s efforts to meet the need for teaching staff in various regions.
