The government will renovate substandard houses in Papua. Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) Maruarar Sirait stated that this step is part of a housing programme to provide decent homes for the community.

“I also announce that on 27 April, we will start the Papua-wide home renovation programme,” he said during a press conference at Wisma Danantara in Jakarta on Friday (17/4/2026).

The man familiarly known as Ara revealed that the number of houses to be renovated in the region is 21,000, targeted to begin on 27 April 2026.

“So there are at least 21,000 houses that we will renovate; this is called home surgery, with potential for more—this is something massive we are doing in Papua,” he said.

Ara further explained that the programme will be implemented in six provinces in Papua, covering 42 regencies. Each regency will have at least 500 houses renovated from uninhabitable to habitable conditions.

“In line with President Prabowo’s directive that uninhabitable houses must be repaired massively, I have also reported to Mr Hashim as the Head of the Task Force; he will also grace the event on 27 April in Sorong, Papua,” he added.

On the other hand, Ara said the government will also implement the People’s Business Credit (KUR) Housing programme in collaboration with Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM) and Sarana Multigriya Finansial (SMF).

“Of course, the programme with PNM and SMF, supported by state-owned enterprises, will continue to run. So we have quite a few programmes not only to build and renovate houses but also to make the areas non-slum, and to economically empower the people,” he explained.
