Government to Evacuate 15 Indonesian Citizens from Iran
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Foreign Minister Sugiono revealed that the government will evacuate 15 Indonesian citizens (WNI) from Tehran, Iran. ‘The ok number to be evacuated is 15 (Indonesian citizens) from Iran,’ Sugiono said at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Tuesday (4/2/2026).
Sugiono ordered his staff to prepare the evacuation of those 15 Indonesians, but he did not reveal when the evacuation would take place.
He said there are various factors to consider before evacuation, ranging from travel schemes to the health condition of the Indonesians to be evacuated.
“That needs to be calculated first, you know, the logistics, whether the people are healthy enough, and so on and so forth. So we can’t say today we want to evacuate immediately this second and just move,” he added.
Sugiono said not all Indonesians in the Middle East want to return to Indonesia even though conflicts escalate in the region.
However, he assured that the government will prepare evacuation for Indonesians who want to return home.
For information, the war in the Middle East has heated up after Iran became the target of attacks by Israel and the US on Saturday (28/2/2026) morning local time.
The attacks occurred as a result of the nuclear talks held in Geneva, Switzerland between the US and Iran hitting a deadlock.
Israel was the first party to confirm that it had officially attacked Iran.
The war between Israel and America with Iran was marked by missiles saturating the skies over Tehran.
Some rockets hit several vital points, including the residence in the Narmak neighbourhood, Tehran, where former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad lives.
Iran promptly retaliated against Israel and the US by firing several missiles at locations related to US military operations.
Several US air bases that were attacked include Al Udeid in Qatar, Al-Salem Air Base in Kuwait, Al-Dhafra Air Base in the United Arab Emirates, and the Fifth Fleet Headquarters in Bahrain.
