Government to Enforce 8% Ojol Commission Cap from 1 July, Minister Confirms App Operators Ready

The government is ready to enforce a reduction in app operator commission fees for online motorcycle taxis (ojol) to a maximum of 8% starting 1 July 2026. Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi stated that the policy follows a directive from President Prabowo Subianto and that app operators have committed to the change.

“During the meeting between the app operators and the House of Representatives leadership, it was agreed that this policy would be implemented starting 1 July,” Dudy said during a media briefing on strategic transport sector issues in Jakarta, Friday (26/6/2026).

Dudy explained that the government has undertaken various preparations to ensure the policy is implemented on schedule. He noted that the app operators have also expressed their readiness to comply with the new regulation. “We will certainly support this and prepare everything related to the enforcement of this new commission, which is 8%,” Dudy said.

According to Dudy, intensive communication between the Directorate General of Land Transportation and the app operators indicates they are prepared to implement the government’s policy. He clarified that, initially, the policy will only apply to online motorcycle taxi services.

To accommodate the policy, the Ministry of Transportation will revise the existing regulation governing app commission deductions. In addition to changing the commission provisions, the government will also update regulations concerning insurance aspects under the Ministry’s authority. “With the 8% commission, we will revise the provision that previously stated a maximum commission of 20%, which was 15% plus 5%, to a maximum of 8%,” Dudy stated.

Although some app operators are still adjusting their business models, Dudy stressed that this will not hinder the policy’s implementation. He acknowledged that operators are seeking a new equilibrium following the enforcement of the 8% commission. “For Grab, Gojek, and Maxim, they appear to be ready. Naturally, with this new balance, there will be internal adjustments from each of these app operators,” Dudy said.
