Government to Draft Presidential Regulation on Protection of Online Motorcycle Taxi Drivers
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — The government is currently drafting a presidential regulation concerning the protection of digital platform workers in the online transportation sector. This regulation is designed to strengthen the governance and protection of online motorcycle taxi drivers in Indonesia.
The Coordinator of Labour Relations at the Directorate of Labour Relations and Wages of the Ministry of Manpower, Lisadarti, stated that the drafting of the Presidential Regulation involves several ministries. “In this discussion, it is not only the Ministry of Manpower but also involves other ministries. Because to create this Presidential Regulation, it cannot be done by only one party from the Ministry of Manpower,” said Lisadarti at the Iftar & Media Gathering of inDrive Indonesia 2026 in Jakarta, Wednesday (25/2/2026).
Lisadarti said that the government will also listen to input from application companies. Lisadarti believes that a harmonious relationship with application companies is important to build a sustainable online transportation ecosystem.
“The presence of platforms like inDrive has had a significant impact on the community’s economy, especially in creating job opportunities and income sources for millions of drivers throughout Indonesia,” said Lisadarti.
Lisadarti said that the government is open to dialogue with all industry players. “The government always opens the door for dialogue and constructive cooperation with all players in the online transportation industry,” said Lisadarti.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Non-Route Transportation Team for Urban Areas of the Ministry of Transportation, Ellena, said that the regulation of online transportation is an important part of the strategy for developing the transportation sector.
“Therefore, we are aligning with the Presidential Regulation being drafted by the Ministry of Manpower, which is to build transportation that is fair and transparent,” said Ellena.
