Government to Develop GBK Area into International Standard Sport Tourism Hub
Investment and Downstreaming Minister/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Rosan Roeslani has stated that the development of the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) area has the potential to strengthen the national sport tourism sector. All facilities within the complex will be upgraded to meet international standards.
“GBK will remain GBK, but we will enhance everything, perfecting it to an international or world-class standard, so that it can also provide a new economic centre in Jakarta,” said Rosan.
According to him, the development of the GBK area is part of President Prabowo’s directive to promote the tourism sector as a new source of economic growth. The government will map out and prioritise tourist destinations with significant potential for integrated development.
Tourism development will not only focus on increasing visitor numbers but also on the quality of the tourist experience and boosting tourist spending. “So, we can capture all layers of tourism, from the mass market to the high-end or experiential,” he added.
