The government, in partnership with the private sector, will build subsidised rental flats in the Meikarta area of Bekasi Regency, West Java. Head of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) Muhammad Qodari explained that the construction of these subsidised flats is one of the government’s efforts to provide decent housing for the public. “The construction of subsidised rental flats in the Meikarta area represents a collaborative breakthrough between the government, the private sector, and financing institutions, marked by the groundbreaking on 8 March 2026 on approximately 30 hectares of clean and clear land,” Qodari stated during a press conference at the KSP Office in Jakarta on Wednesday (15/4/2026), quoted from the Kompas TV YouTube broadcast. In implementing the programme, the government appreciates the support from Lippo Group, the Bekasi Regency Government, and Danantara. Furthermore, Qodari explained that the government has the 3 Million Houses programme targeted at low-income communities (MBR). This programme ensures that poor communities can own decent housing by utilising state assets that have not been optimally utilised. “The President, through the Ministry of Housing and Human Settlements, plans to utilise state assets and land that have not been optimally utilised for the benefit of the people, particularly in supporting the provision of decent and affordable housing for the public,” Qodari said. To make it easier for MBR to own houses, the government is streamlining regulations by eliminating building permit fees (PBG) for MBR. The government has also decided to waive Land and Building Acquisition Duty (BPHTB) for low-income communities. The government is also reintroducing an economic policy package in the form of 100% Government-Borne Value Added Tax (PPN DTP) incentives for the delivery of landed houses and apartment units in 2026 and 2027. “All these steps are a concrete manifestation of the President’s directive for policies to favour the small people, while also affirming the government’s commitment to strengthening public services and facilitating public access to decent housing,” Qodari explained.
