Government to Build Special Flats for Low-Income Artists in Bali
Artists in Bali very much deserve attention.
Denpasar (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) is giving attention to Balinese artists through the construction of a low-cost apartment block (rusun) in Denpasar.
“Artists in Bali very much deserve attention, because in my view, besides the beautiful nature, it is Balinese arts and culture that have advanced Bali and made people want to come to Bali,” said PKP Minister Maruarar Sirait during a house renovation inspection in Denpasar on Monday.
The PKP Minister assessed that by facilitating affordable housing, the government has honoured the artists who have advanced Bali.
However, the government wants to ensure that the flats are occupied by artists who fall into the low-income community (MBR) category, with other requirements to be adjusted by the regional government.
“It is allowed as long as they are MBR. Bali is the Island of the Gods, its culture is very noble, but I have heard there has never been a flat for artists. Specifically for Balinese artists, as long as they meet the MBR rules, please, Mr Regional Secretary, adjust the regulations,” said the PKP Minister.
Speaking to the media, he said the flats for artists are being built on Jalan Raya Sesetan, South Denpasar, where the idea arose from observing the needs in the region, such as outside Bali where the wealth of the sea and the large fishing profession led to the construction of special flats for fishermen.
“In several regions, for example, there are flats for fishermen. So we are certainly making a good breakthrough, in my opinion, for artists, but the MBR criteria must be fulfilled,” continued Minister Maruarar.
Bali Regional Secretary Dewa Made Indra added that in this project the Bali Provincial Government is contributing by providing assets for the flat location on land formerly used as an Agricultural Training Centre on Jalan Raya Sesetan.
Currently, the flat construction is at the stage of processing building approval, before construction begins.
“For the time being, its management is still under the central government. It will later be handed over to the regional government after construction, with the construction carried out by the PKP Ministry first,” he said.
Eventually, 60 rooms will be available for artists, but verification will be carried out first to determine which artists fall into the MBR category and are deemed eligible by the PKP Ministry.
