Government to Build 800 Houses on KAI and Angkasa Pura Land
The government, through the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP), is collaborating with state-owned enterprises (SOEs) to build 800 housing units on land owned by PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) and PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia (Persero). The project is targeted for completion on 15 June 2026. “Today I feel truly happy because I received super quick support,” said Ara, the nickname for the PKP Minister, during a press conference at the SOE Supervisory Board (BP BUMN) office on Wednesday (01/04/2026). Maruarar explained that the housing construction will take place at two main locations, namely in the Senen and Tanah Abang areas of Jakarta. “In Senen, Kramat, the land belongs to Angkasa Pura, targeted for completion on 15 June 2026, with 300 units,” she said. Additionally, 500 housing units will be built on KAI-owned land in Tanah Abang with the same completion target. “So this is a new model of work that I think was initiated by Mr Dony Oskaria, which doesn’t talk about when it starts, but when it finishes,” she continued. The Head of BP BUMN, Dony Oskaria, stated that the utilisation of SOE assets is one of the strategic steps to support housing provision for the community. “Of course, we from the SOEs thank you for the trust given to show that SOEs are indeed the property of the Indonesian people, and for assets that were previously not well utilised, we will certainly maximise them to be enjoyed by the public,” said Dony. He added that his side is also mapping other SOE assets that have the potential to be used for housing development, especially in major cities. “The ethos and spirit like in entrepreneurship—ideas, networks, resources, information—all fast, and I see that’s what makes it so that in one hour and in less than a week, directives from the President and the Cabinet Secretary can become a tangible reality,” said Qodari. In terms of data, the Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, revealed that the housing needs in Jakarta are still very high, especially in Central Jakarta. “Nationally, the backlog or the percentage of the population without housing is 13 percent; that’s the highest compared to provinces—DKI Jakarta has a housing non-ownership backlog of 40.59 percent,” said Amalia. “In Central Jakarta, 55.83 percent of households do not own their homes, or in other words, around 146,729 households,” she stated. The government hopes this cross-sector collaboration can accelerate the handling of the housing backlog, especially in urban areas with high needs.
