Government to Build 100 Integrated National Schools by 2026

The government will build around 100 Integrated National Schools in 2026 as part of an effort to equalise education by providing access for high-achieving students from all walks of life. Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti told reporters at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Thursday that, in accordance with President Prabowo Subianto’s directive, the establishment of non-residential, top-tier schools through the Integrated National Schools scheme is being accelerated this year. “This year we plan to build one hundred Integrated National Schools, and there are already school proposals that have been submitted from the 36 we have selected,” said Minister Abdul Mu’ti. Of this target, five schools are planned to commence at centres under the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education. “Then there is one in the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) and nine others that we will build new in regions that have been selected,” Abdul Mu’ti added. The schools target high-achieving children inclusively from all societal groups. The construction of the Integrated Schools is planned through two approaches: building new schools and upgrading existing ones. New school construction is planned to be carried out by the central government and through cooperation with the private sector, under a scheme where the private sector builds and the central government covers operational costs. The minister also reported the progress of school revitalisation for this year to President Prabowo Subianto. This year, revitalisation is targeted for a total of 71,744 educational units across Indonesia, divided into 11,744 units being worked on with a budget of Rp14 trillion approved by the House of Representatives, and a planned additional 60,000 educational units.
