Government To Ban Foreign Investments in Cigarette Industry
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Government was pushing to block foreign investment in cigarette industry, as the government is revising regulation on investment.
After a meeting to discuss the regulation at the Industry Department on Wednesday Minister Fahmi Idris said “Cigarette industry is on the list.”
Fahmi said his department proposed seven industries to be put under investments ban, including cigarette, sugar and pulp. While 10.000 megawatt power plant and security printing were proposed to be indirectly restricted.
The revision according to Fahmi was at the stage of synchronizing the draft among the ministries took part in the drafting the Health Department, Tourism and Cultural Department and the Public Works Department.
However the Secretary General of the Industry Department Agus Tjahayana said cigarrette industry will be “included on the list with special permit”.
