The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has stated that this year the government will continue the programme to procure interactive flat panels (IFPs) or interactive smartboards. Minister of Basic and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti said that every school will receive an additional two to three digital devices. “In line with the instructions from the President, there will indeed be additions; he has mentioned several times that every school will be added between two and three IFPs,” Mu’ti said during a press conference at the Office of the Indonesian Communication Agency (Bakom) in Jakarta on Wednesday, 6 May 2026. In 2025, the government distributed one IFP unit per school to a total of 288,865 educational units. The procurement also included the provision of internet networks to 8,152 educational units. That number is targeted to increase significantly this year. “This is related to improving the quality and competence of educators and the quality of teaching materials,” Mu’ti said. However, he did not specify the total budget or the number of IFPs to be distributed this year. In addition, the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education will develop enriched digital materials. Director General of Early Childhood Education, Basic Education, and Secondary Education at the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education Gogot Suharwoto said the government is targeting the creation of 3,800 lesson contents, a significant increase from the previous year’s 2,800 contents. In the production process, the ministry is recruiting a professional team consisting of teachers, media experts, and information and technology (IT) experts. Nevertheless, Gogot encourages teachers to be able to create content independently. So far, the government has trained 29,000 teachers to improve their digital content creation competencies up to 2025. “So we do not rule out the possibility of teachers creating their own content,” he said on the same occasion. Previously, the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education targeted that every school would have six interactive smartboards by 2027. This was stated by Minister of Basic and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti when met at Building A of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education in South Jakarta on Tuesday, 11 November 2025. The promise to distribute six IFPs to every school, Mu’ti said, is in accordance with instructions from President Prabowo Subianto. He said the president wants to pursue the target so that every class in schools learns using IFPs. “Next year, as promised by the President in the cabinet meeting, three will be distributed to each school. Thus, in 2026, it is hoped there will be four IFPs in each school,” Mu’ti said. “He (the president) stated that in the following year, 2027, two more per school will be sent.”
