Government to Acquire PT Granito if Layoffs Continue, Says KSPSI
The government is monitoring the planned layoffs of workers by PT Granito Kramik after it lowered the price of liquefied natural gas (LNG), a key industrial raw material. One solution that emerged during government discussions is to acquire the company if it persists with the terminations of employment.
This was conveyed by the President of the Confederation of All-Indonesian Workers’ Union (KSPSI), Andi Gani Nena Wea, during a press conference at the KSPSI headquarters in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, on Monday (29/6/2026). Andi Gani stated that the plan was raised during a meeting between the government and several labour unions.
“At yesterday’s meeting, the government decided specifically for PT Granito that if the employer does not continue operations, the government will take over. That is our commitment,” Andi Gani said.
He explained that this plan was considered during the meeting should PT Granito prove incapable of continuing operations. The plan is also part of the government’s efforts to protect the workers’ welfare. “If the company is unable to continue its business despite the gas price being reduced significantly, the government, I emphasise, will take over the company for the safety of the workers who have been laid off,” Andi Gani clarified.
According to Andi Gani, the acquisition plan could be executed by the government through Danantara. Additionally, the government is ready to seek new investors, a step that is already being explored. “There are many avenues, either acquired by Danantara or finding a new investor. We are currently conducting exploratory talks,” he said. “If the company insists on layoffs, the government, during yesterday’s meeting, planned to take over in two ways: finding a new investor or being acquired by Danantara, for a swift rescue by the government,” he added.
Andi Gani also revealed that approximately 447 of his members working at PT Granito Kramik have been laid off. He stated that he would meet with company leaders to fight for the fate of the affected workers. “The confirmed number of our members laid off at PT Granito is around 447. The employer has already informed us that their status is terminated. Even after the industrial gas policy was lowered, they still proceeded with the layoffs,” Andi Gani disclosed.
He urged the workers of PT Granito Kramik to be patient as the government and the union will soon hold discussions regarding their future. He also mentioned that he would meet with the leadership of PT Granito Kramik the following day. “For Granito, the government will take swift and precise action so that the workers can return to their jobs. We are doing this so that no one is left behind and no one faces hardship,” he said. “Tomorrow we will discuss the fate of PT Granito, and in the near future, I will meet with the company’s leadership because I want to save my members, KSPSI members, and also the workers there, even those not affiliated with KSPSI.”
He further explained that a meeting would be held the next day with Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, who chairs the Layoff Mitigation Task Force, Minister of Manpower Yassierli, Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, and the National Police’s Employment Desk. This meeting, he said, is to discuss mitigation efforts against the threat of a wave of layoffs. “This demonstrates the government’s alignment with our concerns, the difficulties, threats, and the very critical situation. I call it critical because it is not just a threat; it has happened to our members at Granito, a situation that was quite good at a very large company, which ultimately collapsed because it could not cover the cost of industrial gas,” he concluded.
