Government Targets Rp30 Trillion in Trading Transactions During School Holiday Season in Indonesia
The Ministry of Trade has set a target for the ‘Belanja di Indonesia Aja’ (BINA) Holiday and Back to School 2026 programme to generate Rp30 trillion in transactions. The programme is a collaborative effort between the government and the Indonesian Retailers and Shopping Centre Tenants Association (Hippindo).
Deputy Minister of Trade Dyah Roro Esti Widya Putri stated that this programme serves as a strategic effort to encourage domestic consumption, strengthen the trade sector, and mobilise related economic sectors by leveraging the school holiday period. “We are optimistic that this programme can accelerate national economic activity and produce transactions reaching Rp30 trillion,” Roro said during the launch of BINA Holiday and Back to School 2026 at the Ministry of Trade office in Jakarta on Monday, 8 June 2026.
Roro noted that the national economic performance is showing a positive trend. In the first quarter of 2026, Indonesia’s economy grew by 5.61 per cent year-on-year. This growth was driven by household consumption, which grew by 5.52 per cent, contributing 54.36 per cent to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Furthermore, the trade sector grew by 6.26 per cent year-on-year, the Real Sales Index grew by 4.74 per cent, and there was an increase in digital-based trade transactions.
These achievements indicate that public consumption remains stable and serves as vital capital for maintaining the momentum of national economic growth. Meanwhile, the General Chairman of Hippindo, Budihardjo Iduansjah, stated that over the last ten years, his organisation has contributed to strengthening the national economy through the retail sector. “This programme is a concrete manifestation of that collaborative spirit to encourage the public to shop and travel within Indonesia, with a target economic turnover of Rp30 trillion,” said Budihardjo.
BINA Holiday and Back to School 2026 is a collaborative movement involving the retail, shopping centre, tourism, transportation, hospitality, culinary, creative economy, and MSME sectors. The programme aims to increase domestic shopping and tourism activities during the school holiday season. In the previous BINA event, namely BINA Lebaran 2026, the programme successfully achieved transactions of Rp54.9 trillion, exceeding the initial target of Rp53.38 trillion.
