The government targets the school revitalisation programme to reach 71,744 educational units by 2026 with a budget of Rp 14 trillion. This target forms part of efforts to enhance the quality of national educational facilities and infrastructure.

Minister of Basic and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti stated that the addition of targets comes directly from President Prabowo Subianto’s instructions to accelerate the equitable distribution of education quality.

“It is planned to add around 60,000 educational units as targets. The President has mentioned this several times, so by 2026, the revitalisation programme can target 71,744 educational units,” said Mu’ti during a press conference at the Government Communication Agency office in Jakarta on Wednesday, 6 May 2026.

He explained that the 2026 revitalisation programme implementation is already underway. To date, the government has completed thousands of cooperation agreements with educational units and begun disbursing aid totalling Rp 2.6 trillion.

“Now, we have started implementing it; for 2026, agreements have been finalised with 4,838 educational units and disbursements made to 3,408 educational units,” he said.

Several revitalisation projects have entered the initial construction phase in various regions. Furthermore, Mu’ti emphasised that the government has set priorities for the 2026 revitalisation programme. The main focus is on schools damaged by natural disasters.

“In 2026, revitalisation is prioritised for schools damaged due to disasters. Schools affected by natural disasters, whether in Sumatra or other regions in Indonesia,” he stated.

In addition, the government prioritises schools in underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost areas (3T regions), as well as schools with severe damage even if not in disaster areas or 3T regions.

“Schools in 3T areas and schools that are severely damaged, even if not in disaster areas or 3T, but those with severe damage are prioritised for the 2026 revitalisation programme,” he concluded.
