JAKARTA - The government is targeting coverage for 10 million vulnerable workers under the BPJS Ketenagakerjaan programme by the end of 2026. This target forms part of efforts to expand the scope of employment social security protection, particularly for poor, extremely poor, and vulnerable worker groups. Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Muhaimin Iskandar stated that the government will continue to push for accelerated participation of vulnerable workers through synergy between central and regional governments. He explained that local governments play a vital role in broadening protection for vulnerable workers, including through contribution subsidies and participation stimuli for those in need. “In addition to providing social security to workers in their regions, local leaders also offer contribution stimulus subsidies to vulnerable communities while mobilising and raising awareness for independent participation,” he said. According to Muhaimin, the success of the programme heavily depends on the performance of local governments in increasing the number of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan participants in their respective areas. “With the various programmes planned by the government, Insya Allah, we can reach 10 million protected vulnerable workers by the end of this year,” he concluded. He added that BPJS Ketenagakerjaan is also encouraging independent participation from vulnerable workers by utilising a 50 per cent premium discount policy under Government Regulation No. 50 of 2025, which applies until the end of this year. “It is hoped that this policy will increase public awareness for registration while facilitating local governments in adding to the number of participants,” he emphasised.
