Government Targets BOP PAUD for 6.3 Million Pupils to Support 13-Year Compulsory Education
The government is targeting the distribution of Early Childhood Education Operational Assistance (BOP PAUD) funds for 6.3 million pupils to support the implementation of the 13-year compulsory education programme. Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa stated that the budget allocation for the BOP PAUD funds is included in the education programme spending budget of Rp820.9 trillion in the 2027 State Budget Draft (RAPBN TA 2027).
“In accordance with the 1945 Constitution, the state prioritises an education budget of at least 20 per cent of the state budget for the implementation of national education,” said Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa during a press conference on the 2027 State Budget Draft and Financial Note in Central Jakarta on Friday. He added that this allocation represents a 13.9 per cent growth compared to the projected education budget outlook in the 2026 state budget of Rp720.8 trillion.
To support teacher welfare, he explained that the education programme spending budget in the 2027 State Budget Draft is also ready to be allocated for the Non-Civil Servant Teacher Professional Allowance (TPG) for 1.3 million non-civil servant teachers, as well as the Regional Civil Servant Teacher Professional Allowance (TPG ASND) for 1.7 million teachers in the regions. The education budget, he said, is planned to be distributed through central government spending of Rp490.7 trillion, regional transfers of Rp277.1 trillion, and financing of Rp53 trillion.
On a previous occasion, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education stated it is ready to distribute the Smart Indonesia Programme (PIP) education assistance for early childhood education pupils for the 2026/2027 academic year starting from October to November 2026 to support the 13-year compulsory education programme. The Director General of Early Childhood Education, Primary Education, and Non-Formal and Informal Education at the ministry, Gogot Suharwoto, said the PIP PAUD distribution process will be carried out in the odd semester of the 2026/2027 academic year, using the Dapodik data with a cut-off date of 31 August 2026.
