Government Targets 16,557 Schools for Internet Connectivity

The government of President Prabowo Subianto is targeting more than sixteen thousand schools to be connected to the internet this year. Head of the Government Communication Agency (Bakom) Muhammad Qodari stated that the programme aims to equalise the digital learning ecosystem across Indonesia. He emphasised that the digital transformation of education should not only occur in urban schools but also in disadvantaged, frontier, and outermost regions, known as 3T. “All educational units must have access to quality, modern, and technology-based services,” he said in a written statement on Friday, 3 June 2026. According to Qodari, 8,265 schools received internet access in 2025. The target has increased for 2026, with 16,557 educational units planned to receive internet connectivity. He noted that expanding internet access will ensure all students have equal opportunities to access technology-based learning. While the majority of educational units nationwide are already connected, some schools remain without a network. “Nationally, 77 per cent of educational units in Indonesia currently have internet access, while the remaining 23 per cent are still unreachable and will be the focus of attention going forward,” he said. In addition to expanding internet access, Qodari said the government is also developing the use of digital learning platforms through the Ekosistem Rumah Pendidikan application. This application is an integrated platform for various digital education services. Qodari explained that the application features several main services, including Ruang Murid, which provides digital learning resources, assessments, and character development materials for students. He claimed the Ruang Murid feature has recorded 1.3 million monthly active users. “This is part of the implementation of Presidential Instruction Number 7 of 2025 concerning the acceleration of learning digitalisation and strengthening quality education services,” he said.
