Government Targets 16,557 Schools for Internet Connectivity
The administration of President Prabost Subianto is targeting tens of thousands of schools to be connected to the internet this year. The Head of the Government Communications Agency (Bakom), Muhammad Qodari, stated that this programme is intended to equalise the digital learning ecosystem across Indonesia.
Qodari noted that the digital transformation of education is expected to reach not only urban schools but also those in the most remote, frontier, and least developed areas (3T). “All educational units must have access to high-quality, modern, and technology-based educational services,” he said in a written statement on Friday, 3 June 2026.
According to Qodari, 8,265 schools were recipients of internet access in 2025. This target has increased for the current year. In the 2026 planning, he stated that 16,557 educational units are targeted for the internet access fulfilment programme.
Qodari conveyed that expanding internet access will ensure all students have equal opportunities to access technology-based learning. He remarked that while most educational units in Indonesia are currently connected to the internet, some schools still lack network coverage.
“Nationally, 77 per cent of educational units in Indonesia currently have internet access, while the remaining 23 per cent are not yet reached and will be the focus of attention moving forward,” he said.
In addition to expanding internet access, Qodari stated that the government is also developing the use of digital learning platforms through the ‘Ekosistem Rumah Pendidikan’ application. This application serves as an integrated platform to consolidate various digital educational services.
Qodari mentioned that the Ekosistem Rumah Pendidikan application offers several key services. One of these is ‘Ruang Murid’, which provides digital learning resources, assessments, and character development materials for students. Qodari claimed that the Ruang Murid feature has recorded 1.3 million monthly active users.
“This is part of the implementation of Presidential Instruction Number 7 of 2025 regarding the acceleration of learning digitalisation and the strengthening of quality educational services,” he added.
