Government Synergises with Stakeholders to Accelerate EV Charging Station Development

This diversity of business models is expected to increase the participation of business entities and accelerate the provision of charging infrastructure in various regions, said Smart Grid, Charging and Electricity Storage Development Coordinator at the Directorate General of Electricity, Wahyudi Joko Santoso, as quoted from the official website of the Directorate General of Electricity at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) in Jakarta on Tuesday. Joko stated that the government has issued Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Decree Number 24.K/TL.01/MEM.L/2025 concerning the SPKLU Development Plan for the 2025 to 2030 period. He continued that the ministerial decree serves as a reference document for SPKLU development planning in Indonesia. Wahyudi conveyed that ESDM Ministerial Decree Number 24.K/2025 was issued to support the acceleration of SPKLU provision by considering location distribution and charging technology types. The plan includes the provision of SPKLU in various locations, such as shopping centres, offices, industrial estates, toll road rest areas, public petrol stations (SPBU), tourism areas, hospitals, railway stations, terminals, hotels, and ports. On the same occasion, Sub-coordinator for Charging and Electricity Storage Station Development at the Directorate General of Electricity, Ministry of ESDM, Andi Nur Arief Wibowo, explained that the government continues to encourage the simplification of business licensing for SPKLU operators to make it easier for business actors to build electric vehicle charging infrastructure in Indonesia. The opportunity for SPKLU development is that the permits are increasingly simple. The government already has a plan for SPKLU development, and also diverse business models, said Andi. Previously reported, PLN Retail and Commercial Director M Fahrur Rozy said that the use of electric vehicles in Indonesia is showing increasingly strong growth, reflected in electricity consumption at SPKLU which reached 62.4 million kilowatt hours (kWh) up to June 2026. He added that this six-month realisation has surpassed SPKLU electricity consumption throughout 2025, which was recorded at 48.5 million kWh, representing a 28 percent increase.
