Government Surveys Locations for 5-Hectare New City Development in Tangerang
JAKARTA - The government is still conducting surveys of several strategic locations for the plan to build a new city area spanning around five hectares in Tangerang Regency.
Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) Maruarar Sirait, or Ara, stated that the land for the project has been prepared by Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas, and is currently in the location scouting phase.
“Then also the third one, we discussed the new city plan, right? So we have direct access, coincidentally the Minister of Law has prepared land of around 4.5-5 hectares in Tangerang,” Ara explained after meeting the President Director of PT Bank Syariah Nasional (BSN), Alex Sofjan Noor, at Menara BTN I, Jakarta, on Wednesday (13/5/2026).
According to her, the survey is being conducted to determine the area deemed most suitable for developing the new city as well as subsidised rental apartments (rusun).
“We will report according to the meeting two weeks ago with Mr Head of Task Force, Mr Hashim. Now Mr Robert and the team are working to survey strategic locations that are suitable for the new city and also for subsidised rental apartments,” she said.
“So, perhaps one of them will serve as an example for BSN to develop the new city,” she added.
She explained that the new city concept will be intended for low-income communities (MBR) as well as middle-class groups, supported by public facilities.
“The city will be for MBR, as well as for the middle class. And also facilities for education, health, places of worship, sports, and so on,” said Maruarar.
Regarding the detailed project location in Tangerang, the government is still conducting field surveys based on recommendations from the Minister of Law.
“Then the survey with Mr Robert will come, it can be seen. There are detailed locations that are certainly recommendations from the Minister,” she emphasised.
