Government Supports Growth of Music Performance Business

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Tourism is supporting the growth of the music performance business in an effort to build a music tourism ecosystem. “The Ministry of Tourism is striving to create a healthy business ecosystem for the performing arts industry, especially music concerts, in Indonesia,” said Ministry of Tourism Spokesperson Nia Niscaya in Jakarta on Monday. The Ministry of Tourism assesses that the business of organising international-scale music performances in Indonesia is still hampered by limited supporting facilities, licensing issues, and suboptimal packaging. According to Nia, overcoming these obstacles requires an integrated strategy that includes improving supporting infrastructure, streamlining licensing, and developing tourism packages that incorporate music performances. Nia noted that Indonesia already has international-scale event venues such as Gelora Bung Karno, Jakarta International Stadium, Sentul International Convention Center, Jakarta Convention Center, and the Nusantara International Convention-Exhibition (NICE). “The potential of NICE as a venue is also starting to attract the attention of concert promoters. For instance, the Java Jazz music event is also starting to be held at NICE this year,” she said, referring to the facility at PIK 2, Greater Jakarta. The Ministry of Tourism is encouraging increased investment in the construction of music performance venues to support the growth of the concert business. “With integrated connections, visitors can enjoy a more comfortable, safe, and efficient journey,” she said. “This improvement in accessibility is a concrete step towards strengthening destination competitiveness and delivering a memorable experience for every visitor,” she added. She mentioned that additional parking facilities will be provided to address the limited parking areas around performance venues. Furthermore, the Ministry of Tourism is working to ensure that every performance venue is equipped with supporting facilities for people with special needs, such as ramps and accessible toilets, as well as spaces for local micro, small, and medium enterprises. In cooperation with relevant ministries and agencies, she continued, the Ministry of Tourism is also providing concert marketing facilities and digital concert information services. Regarding efforts to combat ticket scalping, the Ministry of Tourism is collaborating with law enforcement to take action against scalpers. The Ministry of Tourism is encouraging concert promoters to provide clear and transparent information about ticket sales services to close loopholes for irregularities and fraud. In addition, the Ministry of Tourism is urging the public to be more careful and meticulous when purchasing concert tickets. “The public is also being educated to filter information on social media so they do not fall victim to scams,” Nia said.
