Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi has revealed that the government is studying a reduction in the length of stay for Indonesian pilgrims in Saudi Arabia as a measure to lower the 2027 Hajj travel costs (BPIH). Speaking at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday, 15 July 2026, Prasetyo stated that the government has not yet set the cost figure as calculations are still underway by the Ministry of Hajj.

He explained that the final cost will be determined after the government evaluates the implementation of the 2026 Hajj, particularly the effectiveness of its management. ‘The evaluation of the 2026 Hajj is not only related to the cost for 2027, but also to management. The management of the Hajj will ultimately determine the cost for the pilgrims,’ Prasetyo said.

One key aspect under review is the duration of the pilgrims’ stay in Saudi Arabia, which currently totals around 40 to 41 days. Prasetyo noted that if the stay can be shortened, accommodation and operational costs could potentially decrease, thereby reducing the overall Hajj expenses. To achieve this, the government is considering increasing flight frequencies to speed up the departure and return process. ‘If we can add flights, we hope to reduce the length of stay. Logically, if the stay is shorter, the Hajj cost can be calculated to be reduced or lowered,’ he added.
