Government strives to strengthen national digital defence

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Intelligence Agency, the Ministry of Communication and Digital, and the National Cyber and Crypto Agency are coordinating to strengthen the security and defence of the national digital ecosystem.

Efforts to consolidate national digital defence were discussed during the Central Intelligence Committee Coordination Meeting at the Ministry of Communication and Digital office in Central Jakarta on Wednesday.

“The security of the national digital ecosystem is a shared responsibility. We need to ensure that technological developments and Indonesia’s digital space progress alongside our ability to detect, prevent, and respond to various potential threats,” said the Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid.

Meutya stated that digital space has now become an inseparable part of both public life and national strategic interests.

Therefore, securing the digital space cannot be performed sectorally by a single institution, but requires coordination and information exchange between agencies and departments.

“Coordination such as this is vital so that the information held by each agency can serve as the basis for faster and more measurable actions. We want to build a digital ecosystem that not only grows but is also safe, resilient, and protected,” said Meutya.

The discussions in the meeting included accelerating the handling of negative content, such as content related to terrorism, child pornography, drugs, gambling, as well as disinformation, slander, and hate speech (DFK).

Addressing such negative content requires cross-sector and cross-agency synergy.

“Negative content has a real impact on security and society. Therefore, inter-agency synergy must be strengthened so that its handling becomes increasingly fast, precise, and measurable,” said Meutya.

She expressed that strengthening digital security must go hand in hand with the utilisation of technology to support economic growth and public services.

“As more of the public’s and the state’s activities move into the digital space, the need to ensure that space is maintained grows as well. We must build public trust in Indonesia’s digital ecosystem through strong governance,” she explained.
