Jakarta (ANTARA) - Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana stated that the government is striving to ensure that the tourism business sector can grow sustainably despite facing various challenges from both domestic and international sources.

β€œThe Ministry of Tourism continues to strengthen various policies and programmes to ensure that Indonesian tourism not only grows in terms of visitor numbers but also becomes increasingly high-quality, sustainable, and delivers broader economic impacts for the community,” she said while delivering the monthly tourism report in Jakarta on Thursday.

She noted that the number of foreign tourist visits in February 2026 reached 1.16 million, an increase of 13.37% from 1.02 million visits in the same period last year.

The cumulative number of foreign tourist visits from January to February 2026 was recorded at 2.35 million, up 7.77% compared to the same period in 2025.

In February 2026, Malaysia remained the largest contributor of tourists, followed by China, Singapore, Australia, and Timor Leste.

The number of domestic tourist trips in February 2026 was recorded at 91.14 million trips, an increase of 0.70% compared to the same period last year.

The total number of domestic tourist trips from January to February 2026 was 193.17 million trips, down 0.17% compared to February 2025.

Domestic tourist movements in March 2026 increased due to the long holidays for Nyepi Day and Eid al-Fitr.

During the holiday and joint leave period from 13 to 29 March 2026, the number of trips to 10 Priority Tourism Destinations and three Regenerative Tourism Destinations reached 12.77 million trips, an increase of 18.80% compared to the same period the previous year.

The number of national tourist trips abroad from January to February 2026 was recorded at 1.71 million trips, down 2.38% compared to the same period last year.

The number of foreign tourist visits to Indonesia in February 2026 was higher than the number of national tourist trips abroad.

Compared to the number of national tourist trips abroad, the number of foreign tourist visits to Indonesia was 0.46 million more in February 2026 and 0.64 million more from January to February 2026.

The Ministry of Tourism is implementing various programmes and activities to increase tourist arrivals, including ensuring destination readiness, service quality, and the application of tourism security standards.

The Ministry of Tourism supports the organisation of tourism programmes and events, actively fosters international cooperation in tourism, and intensifies the promotion of Indonesian tourism abroad through various exhibitions, sales missions, and business meetings.

In addition, the Ministry of Tourism coordinates with local governments to improve the organisation of tourism accommodation licensing services, strengthen tourism crisis management, and direct tourism promotion to relatively stable markets such as East Asia, Southeast Asia, and South Asia.
