Government strengthens crackdown on digital space crimes
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government is enhancing efforts to crack down on crimes in the digital space, including gambling, fraud, and offences targeting vulnerable groups such as children and women. “Online gambling, scams, and various crimes targeting children and vulnerable groups must be handled more rigorously. This year, next year, and beyond. There is no tolerance,” said Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid, as quoted in a ministry press release confirmed on Friday. After attending the Technical Working Meeting of the National Police’s Criminal Investigation for 2026 at the National Police Headquarters in South Jakarta on Thursday (7/5), she stated that collaboration between institutions is the key to pursuing digital crime perpetrators. “Crimes now often use digitalisation and advanced technology as methods. Therefore, strengthening digital services, both in terms of reporting and tracing, must be increased massively,” she said. National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo emphasised the importance of anticipating new legal loopholes that may emerge with technological developments. “The global situation presents new challenges. Synergy and collaboration between agencies are essential so that law enforcement runs optimally in line with the President’s directives,” he said. He stated that the National Police continues to strive to enhance human resource capacity and cooperation to tackle transnational technology-based crimes. In addition, the government is working to strengthen protection for vulnerable groups and improve public digital and legal literacy so that society can protect itself in the digital space.
