Government Strengthens Bailey Bridge to Support People's School Construction in Brebes
Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo inspected the Bailey Bridge in Wlahar Village, Larangan Subdistrict, Brebes Regency, Central Java, to ensure readiness for mobilising construction materials and heavy equipment to accelerate the construction of Phase II of the People’s School in Brebes Regency. Dody stated that the inspection was conducted to confirm the bridge’s safe condition in supporting the mobilisation of heavy-load construction vehicles during the construction process.
Dody emphasised that strengthening the bridge’s structure is necessary, given that the vehicles passing through are heavy-class vehicles with high loads for construction needs.
“Indeed, this bridge must be strengthened because heavy-class vehicles will pass through it. Alhamdulillah, it has started to be strengthened and hopefully it will be ready in a few days,” said Dody in a written statement in Jakarta on Friday (15/5/2026).
Dody also requested that the bridge’s structural condition be monitored routinely to ensure operational safety during the construction process.
“If there is any structural change or movement, it should be stopped first, repaired, and then used again. This is similar to what we are doing in Aceh and North Sumatra for emergency bridges while waiting for the permanent work to be completed,” Dody stated.
Dody explained that the 90-metre-long and 4-metre-wide Bailey Bridge has a load capacity of up to 25 tonnes and was built to support access to the People’s School construction site in Brebes Regency.
The bridge construction was carried out through collaboration between the Central Java–DI Yogyakarta National Road Implementation Centre (BBPJN) and the Directorate General of Strategic Infrastructure.
Dody conveyed that the bridge’s presence supports the mobilisation of more than 2,000 tonnes of steel frame structures as well as mixer truck traffic for concrete work during the construction process.
Dody also emphasised that accelerating the People’s School construction is a joint focus of all organisational units within the Ministry of Public Works as part of support for the government’s priority programme in the education sector.
“Hopefully, with this bridge strengthening, the progress of the People’s School in Brebes can be caught up again and still completed according to the June target. Thank you very much to friends from the Directorate General of Highway Development and Strategic Infrastructure for their cooperation,” said Dody.
The construction of the People’s School in Brebes Regency is carried out using the 2025–2026 State Budget with a contract value of Rp 244.69 billion. The scope of work includes the construction of an integrated educational area with a total building area of 27,372 square metres, consisting of primary school, junior high school, senior high school buildings, student dormitories, teacher apartments, canteen, mosque, multipurpose room, and sports facilities.
