Government Strategy to Pursue 8 Percent Economic Growth Through New Sources
The government is preparing a series of new economic growth sources as a strategic measure to drive national economic growth towards the 8 percent target. This effort is being undertaken through strengthening economic fundamentals and accelerating priority policies amid global geopolitical uncertainty.
Spokesperson for the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Haryo Limanseto, stated that these measures are directed at increasing production capacity, strengthening investment, and creating inclusive growth sources for the wider community.
One of the main pillars of new growth sources is the acceleration of downstreaming. Up to 2026, the government has conducted groundbreaking on 26 strategic downstreaming projects. These projects are projected to absorb tens of thousands of new workers while strengthening Indonesia’s position in the global supply chain through increased added value of natural resources.
In addition to physical downstreaming, the government is strengthening natural resource management through the financial sector. Currently, the Gold Bank managed by Pegadaian and Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) has managed 153 tonnes of gold with a value reaching Rp360 trillion (approximately 20 billion US dollars).
Meanwhile, PT Danantara Sumber Daya Indonesia (DSI) has recorded significant performance by managing Export Proceeds (DHE) of 14 billion US dollars within just 2 months and 13 days of operation. Danantara DSI also monitors more than 6,500 export transactions to prevent under-invoicing and transfer pricing practices.
The government has also carried out a major streamlining of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs). From a total of 1,074 SOEs (including subsidiaries and sub-subsidiaries), 290 companies have been closed. The government is targeting the maximum number of SOEs to shrink to 300 companies to improve efficiency.
The results of this transformation are beginning to show in profitability. SOE profits increased sharply from Rp186 trillion in 2024 to Rp326 trillion in 2025, growing by 75.3 percent.
Entering 2027, Haryo revealed that the government has prepared 10 transformation agendas to improve national competitiveness. “The various transformation agendas prepared for 2027 are part of the government’s efforts to build new, more productive and sustainable growth sources,” concluded Haryo.
