The government is responding to complaints from traders at the Cengkareng Fisheries Products Promotion Centre (TPHP) in West Jakarta about the declining number of buyers and the outdated condition of the building. To enhance economic activity at this ornamental fish centre, the government is inviting traders to collaborate through various promotion and massive publicity programmes. Head of the DKI Jakarta Centre for Production, Inspection, and Certification of Fishery Products (PPISHP), Risnadi, stated that the current market conditions are more influenced by economic factors impacting people’s purchasing power, including for hobbies such as ornamental fish. Nevertheless, he encouraged traders to remain optimistic and actively promote their goods, particularly through digital channels. According to him, utilising social media is one of the keys to increasing sales amid changes in consumer shopping patterns. “Traders can provide material to me, we will help with regular publications through PPISHP’s social media, we also regularly visit there (to create content). The important thing is to make this place bustling first,” he said. In agreement with Risnadi, Head of the Fisheries Section of the West Jakarta Food Security, Maritime, and Agriculture Agency (KPKP), Aas Asih, said that her side has conducted intensive coordination with the traders. She mentioned that meetings have been held twice, on 13 April and 27 April 2026, attended by the Head of PPISHP and the Head of KPKP West Jakarta. In addition to digital promotion, the government is also preparing proactive strategies through educational visits for students and community activities. “We facilitate and encourage educational visits from schoolchildren as a means of learning maintenance techniques and marketing of ornamental fish. On the other hand, we also utilise cat sterilisation activities at the TPHP location to introduce the potential of ornamental fish to animal-loving communities,” Aas explained. She added that since 2025, her side has routinely held cat sterilisation activities in the Cengkareng TPHP area, with the hope that visitors can get to know and spread information about the ornamental fish centre. To increase activity in the area, the government is also initiating an extension of the operating hours of TPHP Cengkareng to 10:00 to 22:00 WIB. “This policy is expected to support an increase in traders’ transaction potential, especially for visitors with time constraints during the day. However, its implementation still refers to security and order regulations. I don’t want that place to become a den of drugs or gambling,” Risnadi said.
