Government States Potential Difference in Eid al-Fitr 2026 Date with Muhammadiyah
Jakarta, Kompas.com - Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno has stated there is potential for a difference in the date of Eid al-Fitr 2026 between the government and Muhammadiyah.
Muhammadiyah has already set 20 March 2026 as Eid al-Fitr day. However, the government has not yet established the Eid al-Fitr date, as they will only hold their determination session (sidang isbat) on 19 March 2026.
“There is indeed potential for a difference in Eid al-Fitr, we will wait for the results, but that does not affect the holiday schedule and so forth,” said Pratikno at a press conference at the Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday (11 March 2026).
Pratikno stated that even if the government and Muhammadiyah determine different dates for Eid al-Fitr, it is not actually a problem.
However, Pratikno still hopes the government and Muhammadiyah will celebrate Eid on the same day.
“Whether the 1st of Syawal will be different or not, hopefully it will be the same, but if it is different it does not matter,” said Pratikno.
“So we do not necessarily have to be the same, we can be different. But what is important is that we respect each other and appreciate one another if there are indeed differences in the results of the determination session on the 1st of Syawal,” he added.
