Government Spending Reaches Rp 2,295 Trillion, Up 17 Per Cent

Government expenditure realisation until the end of August 2026 reached Rp 2,295.7 trillion, growing by 17.1 per cent compared to the same period last year. This figure is equivalent to 59.7 per cent of the 2026 state expenditure ceiling of Rp 3,842.7 trillion.

Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara stated that the increase in spending is primarily evident in the expenditure realisation of ministries and agencies (K/L), which reached Rp 912.4 trillion. This figure represents a 33 per cent growth compared to August 2025, which stood at Rp 686 trillion.

“This means that government projects and activities on the ground are growing by 33 per cent. This is a good performance,” Suahasil said during the APBN KiTa media briefing at the Ministry of Finance on Friday (18/9/2026).

Overall, central government expenditure reached Rp 1,791.5 trillion, or a growth of 29 per cent. In addition to K/L spending, non-K/L expenditure amounted to Rp 879.1 trillion, growing by 25.1 per cent. Meanwhile, transfers to regions reached Rp 504.3 trillion.

Suahasil noted that the acceleration in K/L spending indicates that programmes and activities that have received budget allocations are beginning to be implemented. The government, she said, expects that allocated budgets can be utilised promptly.

“We certainly want that once the State Budget (APBN) is prepared and allocations have been provided to ministries and agencies, those allocations are used. We do not want the allocation to be provided only for the activities not to be carried out,” she remarked.

Nevertheless, Suahasil reminded that the acceleration of spending does not mean the government is ignoring efficiency. Budget implementation must remain well-targeted and provide benefits to the public.

“If implemented, activities must adhere to the principles of efficiency, precision, and the principle of providing maximum benefit to the community,” she emphasised.
