Government signs Joint Decree for integrated services to protect women and children in Jakarta

The government has signed a Joint Decree (SKB) regarding the Pilot Programme for the Implementation of Integrated Services for Women and Children in the Province of DKI Jakarta, aimed at establishing an integrated and effective protection system. Under this new integrated system, all needs of victims—ranging from reporting and healthcare to legal assistance and rehabilitation—will be met easily and sustainably.

“We are not merely witnessing the signing of a Joint Decree, but rather reaffirming our commitment to providing a more effective, integrated, and just protection system for women and children,” stated the Minister for Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA), Arifatul Fauzi, in Jakarta on Thursday. She noted that this integrated service represents a paradigm shift in how the state handles such issues.

According to the Minister, the signing of this decree is part of the state’s responsibility to ensure that every citizen, particularly vulnerable groups, can access proper protection and recovery without obstacles. She emphasised that protecting women and children is crucial, given that they constitute two-thirds of Indonesia’s population, yet threats of violence remain a significant concern. She further noted that survey results still indicate an ‘iceberg phenomenon,’ where many victims do not yet feel brave enough to report or speak out.

The Joint Decree for the Pilot Programme in DKI Jakarta was signed by the Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung, alongside the Minister for Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, Arifatul Fauzi, the Chief of National Police, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, the Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, the Minister of Law, Supratman Andi Agtas, the Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, and the Minister of Social Affairs, Saifullah Yusuf.
