JAKARTA — The government has ensured that electricity tariffs in the second quarter or period of April-June 2026 will not increase. This policy has been adopted to maintain public purchasing power ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 H.

The Acting Director General of Electricity at the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, Tri Winarno, stated that the decision is in accordance with applicable regulations and has taken into consideration the economic conditions of the public.

“The public need not worry, as the government has set electricity tariffs for the second quarter of 2026 to remain stable. This determination was made to maintain public purchasing power ahead of Eid al-Fitr, after calculations were conducted on various macroeconomic parameters,” he said in a written statement on Monday (16 March 2026).

He explained that the determination of electricity tariffs is in accordance with Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry Regulation Number 7 of 2024 concerning Electricity Tariffs Provided by PT PLN (Persero), where tariff evaluation for 13 non-subsidised customer categories is carried out every three months.

The tariff adjustments take into account several economic parameters, including the rupiah exchange rate, Indonesian crude oil prices (ICP), inflation, and reference coal prices (HBA).

In calculation terms, electricity tariffs indeed have the potential to change. However, the government chose to hold them in order to maintain industrial competitiveness, public purchasing power, and national economic stability amid global dynamics.

Not only for non-subsidised customers, the government has also ensured that tariffs for 25 subsidised customer categories remain unchanged.

The Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry has also requested PT PLN (Persero) to maintain the reliability of electricity supply during the Eid period. PLN is also encouraged to improve service quality and operational efficiency so that electricity supply remains reliable and sustainable.

“The government also appeals to the public to use electricity efficiently and wisely as part of joint efforts in supporting national energy resilience,” said Tri.
