RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar remains under external pressure, approaching IDR 17,000 per USD in recent days. The government, however, considers the situation manageable.

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa emphasized that the rupiah is currently trading at around IDR 16,800 per USD. “As long as our economic foundation is sound, controlling the rupiah is easier than when the economy is unstable,” he said after meeting President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

Minister Purbaya explained that the health of the domestic economy is the main factor influencing exchange rate stability. The government continues to coordinate closely with monetary authorities to ensure financial markets remain stable. He stressed that sustaining economic growth and maintaining adequate liquidity in the financial system are essential steps to managing exchange rate fluctuations.

“If we ensure good economic development and sufficient liquidity in the system, Bank Indonesia (BI) can monitor the exchange rate. Strong cooperation between the government and BI is necessary to maintain stability,” he said.

He added that harmonization between the government and BI is key to mitigating the impact of global market volatility on the rupiah. “If we are united like this, it is not too difficult to control global market turmoil,” Minister Purbaya said.

In the foreign exchange market, the rupiah strengthened at the close of trading in Jakarta on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. The domestic currency rose 86 points, or 0.51 percent, to IDR 16,863 per USD from its previous level of IDR 16,949 per USD. ***
