Government Seeks Justice in Case of Three Fallen TNI Soldiers in Lebanon
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Indonesian government is endeavouring to seek justice for three Indonesian National Army (TNI) soldiers who perished during the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) peacekeeping mission in Lebanon. The three TNI soldiers were Private First Class Farizal Rhomadhon (27), who fell while on duty at Pos Adhic Al Qusayr, and Captain Infantry Zulmi Aditya Iskandar (33) and Sergeant First Class Muhammad Nur Ichwan (25), who died while providing logistical support in Banni Hayyan. The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Defence and TNI, continues to coordinate with UNIFIL headquarters to ensure the safety of all personnel and the best handling for the victims. Vice President (VP) of the Republic of Indonesia Gibran Rakabuming fully supports a comprehensive investigation into the deaths of the three TNI soldiers in Lebanon. “I fully support the conducting of a thorough investigation by the UN as well as careful handling in accordance with the directives of President Prabowo, including maximum efforts regarding the repatriation process of the bodies,” said Gibran in his statement on Wednesday (1/4/2026). The VP also conveyed deep condolences over the deaths of the three soldiers who were carrying out the peacekeeping mission in Lebanon. “The highest respect for the dedication of the soldiers who have carried out their duties to maintain world peace,” Gibran continued. “Regarding the news of the deaths of our three TNI soldiers who were carrying out duties as peacekeeping personnel in Lebanon, representing the President, we the government convey our deepest condolences,” said Prasetyo in a video sent to the media on Tuesday (31/3/2026). When speaking with UN Secretary-General António Guterres on Monday (30/3/2026) evening, Foreign Minister (FM) Sugiono also urged the UN to immediately hold an emergency Security Council (SC) meeting. Sugiono demanded a swift, transparent, and comprehensive investigation into the incident. “We request the formation of an emergency Security Council UN meeting and a swift, comprehensive, and transparent investigation process,” Sugiono stated, quoted from his X account on Tuesday (31/3/2026). He stated that both parties agreed to coordinate closely and follow up on several crucial steps in responding to the event.
