Government Seals 21 Companies Due to Forest and Land Fires, Most Concentrated in West Kalimantan
The Ministry of Environment has confirmed the sealing of 21 companies as a consequence of forest and land fire (karhutla) disasters in Indonesia.
Minister of Environment Mohammad Jumhur Hidayat stated that the 21 sealed companies are located across seven provinces, based on data recapitulated as of 2 September 2026.
“Our Ministry has just sealed 21 business entities in 7 provinces. This is the data recap up to 2 September,” Jumhur said at the DPR Building, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday, 2 September 2026.
In West Kalimantan, seven companies have been sealed. Additionally, four companies were sealed in South Sumatra and four in South Kalimantan.
“In Central Kalimantan province, three companies were sealed. In East Kalimantan, one was sealed, along with one in Lampung and one in Riau province,” Jumhur explained.
Jumhur explained that the sealing of these companies was carried out to demand accountability for the forest and land fire disasters.
“It is an absolute fact that several hundred hectares have burned, and they must take responsibility because, in truth, this should not have happened from the start. Whether intentional or not, they must be held accountable,” he said.
Furthermore, Jumhur noted that the total number of sealed companies could increase, as the government is currently conducting verifications on hundreds of other companies.
