MAJALENGKA — The government has initiated a roof tile programme (gentengisasi) as part of President Prabowo Subianto’s policy to promote UMKM products in public housing development. The programme was launched with the purchase of roof tiles from the Jatiwangi tile manufacturing centre in Majalengka Regency.

As an initial step, 14 truckloads of tiles were directly released by Housing and Settlement Areas Minister Maruarar Sirait from the Jatiwangi production centre on Wednesday evening (11 March 2026). The total tile order announced in the event reached 24 truckloads from various government programmes and housing developers.

The total transaction commitment amounted to approximately Rp3 billion from central government programmes, provincial government programmes, and district government programmes.

Maruarar stated that the roof tile programme represents the implementation of President Prabowo’s directive that public housing development should not only focus on physical house construction, but also deliver economic benefits to the community and UMKM actors. “This is President Prabowo’s policy. The state does not merely build houses, but also ensures that development benefits our small people and our SMEs,” Maruarar said.

Maruarar added that SMEs must maintain product quality to be able to compete in wider markets. Beyond Majalengka, he also encouraged all tile-producing SMEs to contribute to the government programme.

“SMEs must have high competitiveness by maintaining quality and meeting SNI standards,” he emphasised.

West Java Provincial Secretary Herman Suryatman revealed that in the initial phase this year, the West Java Provincial Government has allocated house repair programmes for 250 units. “For the first phase this year there are 250 housing units to be repaired. With tile requirements of around Rp2 million per house, the potential tile purchasing expenditure reaches approximately Rp500 million,” Herman said.

Meanwhile, Majalengka Regent Eman Suherman stated that the Majalengka District Government has also allocated programmes to repair uninhabitable houses which are expected to absorb tiles from local entrepreneurs. “In 2026 we will implement repair programmes for 1,715 uninhabitable housing units and the estimated tile purchasing expenditure is expected to reach approximately Rp1.5 billion,” Eman said.

Additionally, through the Self-Help Housing Stimulus Assistance (BSPS) programme from the central government, 900 houses in Majalengka Regency are planned to be repaired with potential tile requirements reaching approximately Rp1 billion. Thus, the total commitment to purchase tiles from the Jatiwangi tile UMKM production centre reached approximately Rp3 billion.

In the event, the Housing and Settlement Areas Minister also conveyed his personal commitment to order an additional 10 truckloads of tiles to be used for TNI military personnel housing needs. With this addition, the total tile order announced in the event reached 24 truckloads, with 14 truckloads already released for delivery to various housing development projects.

One tile entrepreneur in Jatiwangi, Riswan, revealed that this government programme has provided new spirit to craftspeople who had faced difficult times in recent years. According to him, government support has revitalised the tile industry in Jatiwangi and opened up wider market opportunities.

“Hopefully this programme can continue so that Jatiwangi roof tiles are not only used in the local area, but can also be marketed throughout Indonesia,” he said.
