Agriculture Minister and National Food Agency Head Andi Amran Sulaiman stated that the government’s rice reserve stocks (CBP) managed by Perum Bulog have surpassed 5,000,198 tonnes as of 23 April 2026.

Amran explained that this achievement signifies the highest national rice reserves for the April period and is the first of its kind in Indonesia’s history, never before accomplished.

“Alhamdulillah, today, 23 April 2026, at 8:55 WIB, the rice stocks across Indonesia total 5,000,198 tonnes. This is the first time; it has never happened throughout history. This is the first historic milestone,” said Agriculture Minister Amran during a break while inspecting rice stocks at the Bulog warehouse in Karawang, West Java, on Thursday.

Amran noted that this accomplishment is the result of hard work by various parties, from the Ministry of Agriculture, Bulog, TNI/Polri, the Prosecutor’s Office, to support from the public, observers, and the press.

He emphasised that differences of opinion are natural, but constructive criticism is still needed to strengthen national food policies without causing disinformation or slander.

Amran also revealed that the government is continuously increasing storage capacity by renting warehouses to accommodate rising production and national rice reserves.

In the Karawang region, for example, the government has rented a warehouse with a capacity of 102,000 tonnes, of which around 80,000 tonnes are already filled and expected to be full within the next two weeks.

Nationally, Bulog’s total warehouse capacity reaches around 3 million tonnes, while additional rented warehouses already in use total 2 million tonnes to support rice reserve storage.

He added that the capacity of these rented warehouses is nearly full, so the government is renting additional warehouses of around 1 million tonnes to anticipate future stock increases.

Amran assessed that this success not only impacts national food security but also demonstrates Indonesia’s contribution to global food stability, which relies on rice commodities. He mentioned that during the 2023 to 2024 period, Indonesia imported around 7 million tonnes of rice, but in 2025 the government successfully stopped those imports.

The government is optimistic about not conducting rice imports in 2026, in line with increased domestic production and the strengthening of national rice reserves that continue to be maintained.
