Government Rice Reserves Surpass 5.19 Million Tonnes, Exceeding First-Half 2026 Target
The Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas has reported that the management of the Government Rice Reserve (CBP) up to the first half of 2026 has surpassed the target set by the government. As of early July 2026, CBP stock was recorded at 5.19 million tonnes, equivalent to 129 percent of the 4 million tonne target.
This achievement was conveyed by the Secretary of the Ministry of PPN/Bappenas, Teni Widuriyanti, during a working meeting with Commission XI of the Indonesian House of Representatives in Jakarta on Thursday, 9 July 2026. “The management of the Government Rice Reserve as of 6 July 2026 has reached 5.19 million tonnes, or 129 percent of the 4 million tonne target,” Teni stated. According to her, this achievement indicates that the national rice reserve is at a relatively strong level in the first half of this year.
The realisation of CBP management serves as an indicator of the government’s policy implementation in strengthening national food security. With stocks reaching 5.19 million tonnes, the government has exceeded the first semester 2026 target of 4 million tonnes. For comparison, in 2025 the management of the Government Rice Reserve also successfully exceeded its target, with CBP stocks reaching 5.01 million tonnes, or 167 percent of the 3 million tonne target. This achievement demonstrates a positive trend in strengthening the national food reserve over the past two years.
Bappenas explained that this achievement is part of the implementation of Presidential Instruction (Inpres) Number 4 of 2026. The policy regulates the procurement and management of domestic grain and rice, as well as the distribution of the Government Rice Reserve for the 2026 to 2029 period. In its implementation, Bappenas is tasked with ensuring that all policies related to the procurement, management, and distribution of CBP are aligned with the Government Work Plan (RKP). This assignment has also been integrated into the 2025 and 2026 RKPs through the Food Self-Sufficiency Priority Programme, specifically in the priority activity of food reserve management.
In addition to recording the stock achievement that exceeded the target, Bappenas also conveyed several recommendations to optimise the utilisation of the Government Rice Reserve. According to Bappenas, the management of CBP not only functions as a strategic stock but can also be utilised to support farmer welfare while maintaining rice price stability.
